Vietnam Rice Exports May Total 650,000 Tons in February
Vietnam, the second-biggest rice exporter after Thailand, may ship 650,000 metric tons in February, according to the General Statistics Office in Hanoi, which didn’t give a year-ago comparison for the month.
Shipments in January were revised to 541,000 tons from 350,000 tons, according to figures released in a spreadsheet by the office today. Exports in the first two months may be 1.19 million tons, 63 percent more than the same period last year, according to Bloomberg calculations based on the release.
Vietnam’s rice exports may reach as much as 6.6 million tons this year, Thoi Bao Kinh Te newspaper reported on Feb. 17, citing Truong Thanh Phong, chairman of the Vietnam Food Association. The country may produce about 25 million tons of milled rice this year, the report said, citing Phong.
