Rice procurement crosses 20 million tonnes so far in 2010-11
New Delhi, Feb 18 (PTI) The government''s rice procurement is marginally lower at 21.66 million tonnes so far in 2010-11 marketing season that started in October last year.
Food Corporation of India (FCI) had procured 21.88 million tonnes of rice in the year-ago period.
"Rice procurement has crossed the mark of 20 million tonnes," an official statement said.
In 2009-10 marketing year (October-September), FCI had procured 32.03 million tonnes as against record purchase of 34.1 million tonnes in 2008-09.
India''s rice production is estimated to rise to 94.01 million tonnes in 2010-11 crop (July-June) as against 89.09 million tonnes in the previous year on the back of good monsoon last year.
