India wheat, pulses acreage up, rice acreage falls
NEW DELHI (Commodity Online) : India’s wheat and pulses acreage for the rabi crop season soar compared with last season while rice acreage dropped, according to official figures.
Official data from the Agriculture ministry showed an increase of 9.23 lakh hectare in acreage for wheat this season to 292.83 lakh hectares.
Pulses acreage climbed to 151.59 lakh hectare, up by 11.89 lakh hectare while oilseeds acreage were up by 1.78 lakh hectares this season. Total oil seeds acreage increased to 94.96 l;akh hectares from 93.18 lakh hectares last season.
However, rice acreage shrinked this season. So far rice was sown on 30.53 lakh hectares compared with last years 35.08 lakh hectares.
Jowar and maize acreages were also fell this season. Jowar acreage dropped to 41.13 lakh hectares from previous season’s 45.36 lakh hectares while maize acreage fell to 11.25 lakh hectares from 11.74 lakh hectares.
